Welcome to Xiao Space! We are currently on hiatus. Our mission is to engage the work of emerging and mid-career artists in broader conversation through innovative curatorial projects. The word “Xiao” (meaning small in Mandarin Chinese), refers to the size of the gallery. The word “Space” references the limitless opportunity for new conceptual exploration we hope to foster.

Xiao Space is the brainchild of sculptor and photographer Robin Carlson and painter Xiao Dong who unite their diverse artistic interests to welcome a breadth of original projects to the vibrant west village neighborhood of Evanston. *We call our gallery Xiao, as in 小 (the Chinese word for small). “X-i-a-o” is also the pinyin spelling for our co-founder’s name 晓; however, the characters have different meanings. Xiao in Xiao Space is pronounced shee'ou.
